Wireless Broadband : December 2007

The first important point that I should make is that all broadband connections from all providers are capable of being wireless. All you need to do is purchase the correct hardware, configure it, and you're away. However, it can often be quite tricky to get it working properly, so the option of having the equipment supplied by your broadband provider can be particularly appealing as their tech support people should, at least in theory, give you all the help you need.

I currently know of three broadband providers offering free wireless hardware when you sign up for their packages: AOL, BT and Eclipse.

Technical Spec and Pricing

The wireless router supplied by AOL is a Netgear DG834G. AOL claim that it is worth £55 which is about right if you do a price comparison on Kelkoo.

BT

The BT Home Hub, if purchased separately, retails for £89.99 at BT shops. The BT Hub Phone, which is included free with broadband Option 3, retails for £79.99.

Eclipse

The wireless router supplied by Eclipse is the same as that provided by AOL, the Netgear DG834G.
