Unlimited Broadband - December 2008

Getting yourself an “unlimited” or “unmetered” broadband plan is great for those of us who love to download our music of the internet, use services such as BBC's i Player and online gaming. Usually these plans cost a bit more than a traditional, “capped” package where you are given formal, usage limits so if you don't use the internet for more an general internet browsing and email usage I'd recommend you check out our “Best Broadband Deals” page.

Sky – Max - £10/month with £17/month basic Sky TV package and FREE Sky Talk. Best Choice

Total Cost: £324 (including Sky TV) + FREE self installation (£30 Installation fee for TV)

In my opinion this is probably the best unlimited broadband plan to go for, infact, it's the only unlimited broadband plan without a fair usage policy. This means, that no matter how much you download Sky can never cut you off claiming you've downloaded too much data.

The MAX plan has a 16MB download speed depending on your area which makes it very fast! For £10 a month extra on your Sky TV package you really cannot go wrong with this package.

Sky offer all Max broadband customers a free wireless router which would cost £50, a 12 month free subscription to McAfee (worth £49.99), 24/7 technical support and 10 sky.com email addresses.

As an added incentive you can also get £50 worth of M&S vouchers, for free, when signing up to sky...this could help a little bit with Christmas shopping!

Be – Unlimited – FREE/Month, £17.50/month starts 1st Feb' 09. - Best Speed

Total Cost: £192.50

If you're after a new broadband package and you sign up to this one quickly you won't have to pay anything until the 1st Feburary 2009! That means you can have a months free broadband. Not only do they give you a months free internet but the price has also gone down a little bit since the summer - Fantastic!

The Be Unlimited plan gives you an unlimited data transfer plan. Download speeds go up to 24MB and up to 1.3MB upload speeds. Be give you a static IP address (usually costs extra with other providers), a free Wireless Be Box moderm,

Though Be is a relatively new company they have a good and reliable backbone and have recently been bought by O2 so you shouldn't have any problems with them.

O2 – All Plans – From £7.34/month (O2 Customers Only) | From £12.23 (NonO2 Customers)

Total Cost: £126.76 (including 4 £10 mobile phone top ups)

O2 have some great discounts avalible for their customers. I'd be less tempted to purcahase one of their broadband packages if I was not a mobile phone customer but even without the customer discount they're still reasonably priced.

All of O2's packages come with an unlimited data transfer limit. Depending on your internet usage and other needs will decide what plan you want.

For mild internet users their standard package will be fine, however for people who download/stream content/play a lot of online games their premium package might be more appropriate. This comes with a 20MB download speed (compared to an 8MB). For people who do a lot of uploading (website owners, people who email a lot of large photos or videos, etc) their Pro plan is probably the best. The main difference is that it comes with a higher upload speed of 2.5MB (compared with 1.3MB on the lower 2 plans). This plan also comes with an improved wireless box that uses wireless N technology to give an improved wireless coverage.

With the Pro plan you also get more licences to McAfee's security software, 500 web texts an optional, free static IP address (good for online gaming or if you have your own email/web server). You elso get prioritised customer service support

All of O2's plans come with a 30 day money back guarantee which is useful if you want to try their service!

Virgin Media – All Plans – From £4.50/month (when you take out a £11/month phone line).

Total Cost: £186

Just like with O2, Virgin Media offer no download limits for all of their broadband packages. Their base package comes with a 2Mb download speed, but for just £10/month (£20 after first 6 months) you could sign up to their fast, 20Mb service. This again comes with no download limits and allows you to download a music track* in under 2 seconds, compared with 20 seconds for a 2Mb broadband line.

With the Size:L and Size:XL you get a free wireless router, where as it's a £40 one of charge with the Size:M package.

Overal, Virgin Media are a big and good company to deal with so any of their plans should work nicely.

*5Mb Music track

These 4 offers above are some of the best avalible on the market today, many broadband companies do offer unlimited broadband deals, so feel free to see what else is on the market by clicking on the company logos on the right hand of the webpage.
